Phone Ring Tone Converter for RTTTL/Nokring-to-Motorola My Tones
Nok2Mot is a program
I wrote that converts RTTTL key tone expressions into Motorola keypad entry
format used in some of Motorola's newer phones such as the V66. Using this
program is simple:
- Copy and paste any RTTTL formatted key tone (such as another web site,
- Paste the entire string into the text area box below. Typically the
name of the tone is included in the string but if it is missing, please
also enter the name in the box provided.
- Click CONVERT.
- The resulting page will contain the tone name and the resulting keystrokes
to enter in your Motorola phone. You may either enter these directly,
or copy the text from the web page and paste it into a document of your
choosing.
- PLEASE READ THE WARNING BELOW, especially if
you try this program and get an error!
NOTE: Nok2Mot
makes every possible attempt to reconstruct the tone faithfully, however
there are some inherent disparities in the 2 formats. Please Read:
- RTTTL supports 4 octaves -- Motorola only 3. Nok2Mot will scale
the tone up or down as long as it only contains a range of any 3 octaves.
If more than 3 octaves are present in the tone, Nok2Mot will
compress the extremes of the notes into a supported range and a warning
message alerting you that this has occurred will be displayed.
- RTTTL supports 6 standard notes (whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth,
& thirty second) and dotted note feature for a total of 12 possible
note durations -- Motorola only supports 3 (whole, half, & quarter).
Nok2Mot will scale the note durations as long as it only contains
a range of any 3 notes. If more than 3 note durations are present in
the tone, Nok2Mot will compress the extremes of the notes into
a supported range and a warning message alerting you that this has occurred
will be displayed.
- RTTTL supports a tempo feature referred to as "beats per minute"
in the spec. Motorola does not have any such feature so the beats per
minute data is ignored.
- Use of Nok2Mot is free for anyone, anytime, and without limits
or restrictions (subject to change in the future). The only thing you
must know is that I will save copies of all ring tunes entered into
a database and may or may not make them available online at some point
in the future. If you do not agree with this then DO NOT USE Nok2Mot.
- Nok2Mot is still in beta testing, so PLEASE email
me with any feedback at all, especially related to how faithful
the tone sounds.
